Ohio Traffic Point System

The point system
Points are assessed for some, but not all violations. Typically, points are assessed for moving violations. The points stay on your license for two years after the date of conviction. If you accumulate twelve or more points in a two year period, your license will be suspended.
Speed limit under 55 miles per hour and

1 to 5 miles over the limit: no points - this is a "no point speed"

6 to 29 miles over the limit: 2 points

30+ miles over the limit: 4 points

Drag racing

Driving under suspension for a 12 point or OVI suspension

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs of abuse

Fleeing

Hit and run

Using a motor vehcile in the commission of any felony

Operating without the owner's consent
Four point violations

Operation with a BAC over the limit

Reckless operation

Disregard for the safety of others

Operating under the influence of alcohol under age 21
Two point violations

Operating with a restriction (like no-helmet on a motorcycle)

Driving under suspension other than 12 point or OVI

Stop signs

Traffic lights

Most other violations
No point violation
