Ohio Veteran's Issues
Some veterans need treatment and rehabilitation, not jail. Some courts recognize that. Some are less enlightened.
Some courts have special sessions that deal specifically with veteran issues. For example, the Cleveland Municipal Court will send affected veterans to one of two judges who specialize in veteran's special needs. Cleveland is striving for a "wrap-around service" which will bring in local, state and federal resources to assist the court in their work. Volunteer veteran mentors are assigned to assist each defendant.
This isn't new, there are seventy-eight such courts as of this writing. Unfortunately, not all courts recognize veteran problems.
